DESCRIPTION:NBQA Silent Auction and General Membership Meeting for April 24th\, 2025 \nProceeds to benefit the New England Quilt Museum\, The Seabees Museum (where all our quilt show items are stored)\, and one of the missions of the United Methodist Church. \nWe will begin the Silent Auction at 6:00 p.m. and it will run for one hour. We ask that you bid in dollar amounts only. An example would be if you bid $10.00 on an item\, the next person cannot bid $10.50. That bid would be disqualified. You can only pay for your items by cash or check (check made out to NBQA) please. \nThere will also be refreshments in the kitchen from 6:00-7:00 and yes\, please feel free to bring something of your choosing to share. This is also a great time to renew your membership. \nAt 7:00 p.m. we will begin a short business meeting followed by Show and Tell (this timeframe will allow the volunteers to determine who the bid winners are). \nOnce the winners are determined\, your name will be called\, and you will collect your card(s) and bring them to the cashier. We will have four cashiers to accommodate everyone. You will pay the cashier with cash or check; they will stamp your card(s) and you can pick up your item(s) at that time. A volunteer will be there to help you and please remember to turn in your card(s) to that volunteer. \nWe have over 130 brand new items for you to bid on. Timna is a designer for Studio e Fabrics\, the author of Stitched Photo Mosaic Quilting\, and an in-demand teacher and speaker. She lives in South Hadley\, Massachusetts.\n\n\nEvent Description:  Flying Colors Trunk Show\n\nTimna is known for making fun\, colorful\, award-winning quilts. DESCRIPTION:Speaker Scarlett Rose – “Scarlett’s Quilts Tell a Story” \nScarlett Rose started quilting in 1976. She began teaching in 1986. She began quilt judging in the early 1990’s and she has been using Zoom for her lecture and classes since 2020. Scarlett teaches for quilt guilds\, shops and conferences throughout the United States and twice in Japan!  While specializing in Celtic design for applique\, hand embroidery and Sashiko\, Scarlett also designs scrap quilts\, friendship quilts\, and foundation pieced quilts. Her quilts are modern innovations on classic patchwork patterns and ancient symbols. Drawing on her cultural heritage\, she combines Asian influences with her hand embroidery knot design. Scarlett has designed fabric\, modern quilts\, art quilts and wearable art. Her best friend from High School is a quilter and Brita would buy her fabric and notions for Christmas and birthdays. After a while all the pretty colors started drawing Her in. In April of 2017 I retired from work\, moved back to PA and devoted myself to serious quilting and sharing this passion which has given me so much joy. Using 3 cameras\, one on Brita and the quilts\, one pointing straight down at the cutting mat\, and one close-up on the quilts\, she will be able to show you how easy it is to turn simple blocks into beautiful complex patterns. Using the Zoom format\, you will be able to ask questions during the presentation. Brita will also show you how different block designs can be enhanced by color choices or slight modifications to make even more interesting full quilts.

SUMMARY:Membership Meeting with Colleen McFarlin
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the November membership meeting featuring Colleen McFarlin’s lecture on Color Theory/Variation \nColleen started sewing at age 14 and attended a vocational high school for fashion design\, where she learned to make my first quilt. She graduated from Savannah College of Art & Design with a degree in Fibers. Colleen’s quilts have been displayed in galleries from Seattle to Savannah. In 2016\, her quilt ‘Finding Home’ was displayed at QuiltCon in Pasadena\, CA and placed 3rd in the Flying Geese Challenge by American Patchwork + Quilting Magazine. She also proudly had quilts published in 2 different issues of Curated Quilts. \n“Quilting is an incredible art form – it is creative\, beautiful\, challenging\, exciting\, frustrating\, and wonderful! I am so incredibly proud to be a part of this community as a quilt shop owner of Beyond the Bolt in Bristol RI\, pattern designer\, teacher\, and overall quilt enthusiast.” \nIn this lecture\, Colleen will discuss what color theory is and why it matters within quilting. She will go over the color wheel\, explore different values\, and look at samples that go over both. Color value is so important in the success or failure of a quilt\, and it’s important for quilters to see how to successfully use color and value! \n
