DESCRIPTION:This 6-hour workshop will be structured similar to a “sew along” and will be held over 2 days (3 hours each). There are 9 blocks and Brita will teach each one in turn. She will have 2 cameras\, one on her and the sewing machine and one pointing straight down at the cutting mat and pressing surface. Brita will demonstrate how to make the block along with little tips on accurate piecing and pressing. The students will then follow along and take turns showing the class how their block came out. The Zoom features allow Brita to answer questions immediately and help anyone who might be having a little trouble. In April of 2017 I retired from work\, moved back to PA and devoted myself to serious quilting and sharing this passion which has given me so much joy. Using 3 cameras\, one on Brita and the quilts\, one pointing straight down at the cutting mat\, and one close-up on the quilts\, she will be able to show you how easy it is to turn simple blocks into beautiful complex patterns. Using the Zoom format\, you will be able to ask questions during the presentation. Brita will also show you how different block designs can be enhanced by color choices or slight modifications to make even more interesting full quilts.

DESCRIPTION:Colleen started sewing at age 14 and attended a vocational high school for fashion design\, where she learned to make my first quilt. She graduated from Savannah College of Art & Design with a degree in Fibers. Colleen’s quilts have been displayed in galleries from Seattle to Savannah. In 2016\, her quilt ‘Finding Home’ was displayed at QuiltCon in Pasadena\, CA and placed 3rd in the Flying Geese Challenge by American Patchwork + Quilting Magazine. She also proudly had quilts published in 2 different issues of Curated Quilts. \n“Quilting is an incredible art form – it is creative\, beautiful\, challenging\, exciting\, frustrating\, and wonderful! I am so incredibly proud to be a part of this community as a quilt shop owner of Beyond the Bolt in Bristol RI\, pattern designer\, teacher\, and overall quilt enthusiast.” \nIn this class we will make the ‘Iron Garden’ Pattern from Five/Five Studio. Curves can be tricky – Colleen will go over tips and tricks for making them easier. We will also tackle trimming up the curves to be the perfect size for this pattern. She will be teaching how to make the small throw size. Students will finish a good portion of this quilt in class. \nSkill Level: Intermediate and up \nWe will be sewing curves in this class. DESCRIPTION:Please join us at the church to support Quilts of Valor. \nQuilts of Valor Foundation began in 2003 with a dream\, literally a dream. Founder Catherine Roberts’ son Nat was deployed in Iraq. \nAccording to Catherine: The dream was as vivid as real life. I saw a young man sitting on the side of his bed in the middle of the night\, hunched over. The permeating feeling was one of utter despair. I could see his war demons clustered around\, dragging him down into an emotional gutter. Then\, as if viewing a movie\, I saw him in the next scene wrapped in a quilt. His whole demeanor changed from one of despair to one of hope and well-being. The quilt had made this dramatic change. \nThe message of my dream was:      Quilts = Healing.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an NBQA Member’s only silent auction to benefit the New England Quilt Museum\, Meals on Wheels and a mission for the United Methodist Church sponsored by the Comfort Quilt Committee and Programs. \nThere will be more than 65 items for members to bid on. Bidding will start at 6:30 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. We will also use this hour as our social time. At 7:30 we will have a brief business meeting and Show and Tell. As soon as the committee has the results – the winners of the bids will be announced. \nPayment via cash or check only please.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a pillowcase-a-thon with NBQA’s own Phyllis Cayer\, pillowcase maker extraordinaire. \nWe will be learning three different pillowcase making techniques. You can bring your serger or your sewing machine. If you have children themed fabric\, please bring that as well. Otherwise\, we will have fabric on hand. The completed pillowcases will be delivered to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. \nFeel free to join us from 9am-2pm or drop in as your schedule permits.

SUMMARY:Brita Nelson Making Magic\, A Disappearing Block Sample Quilt Class 2
DESCRIPTION:This 6-hour workshop (2 -3 hour days) will be structured similar to a “sew along”.  There are 9 blocks and Brita will teach each one in turn.  She will have 2 cameras\, one on her and the sewing machine\, and one pointing straight down at the cutting mat and pressing surface.  Brita will demonstrate how to make the block along with little tips on accurate piecing and pressing.  Students will then follow along and take turns showing the class how their block came out.  The Zoom features allows Brita to answer questions immediately and help anyone who might be having a little trouble.  As some students finish before others she will show other possible layouts and talk about things like how to enlarge the pattern or use different colors and how these blocks might look in a finished quilt. \nDepending on total number of participants the cost ($650) Will be divided evenly per student.  for example\, if we have 20 participants the cost per student will be 32.50. \n  \nThe class will be scheduled over two Saturdays in February 2023  the 18th & 25 space is limited to 20 participants.
