SUMMARY:Brita Nelson Making Magic\, A Disappearing Block Sample Quilt Class 1
DESCRIPTION:This 6-hour workshop (2 -3 hour days) will be structured similar to a “sew along”.  There are 9 blocks and Brita will teach each one in turn.  She will have 2 cameras\, one on her and the sewing machine\, and one pointing straight down at the cutting mat and pressing surface.  Brita will demonstrate how to make the block along with little tips on accurate piecing and pressing.  Students will then follow along and take turns showing the class how their block came out.  The Zoom features allows Brita to answer questions immediately and help anyone who might be having a little trouble.  As some students finish before others she will show other possible layouts and talk about things like how to enlarge the pattern or use different colors and how these blocks might look in a finished quilt. \nDepending on total number of participants the cost ($650) Will be divided evenly per student.  for example\, if we have 20 participants the cost per student will be 32.50. \n  \nThe class will be scheduled over two Saturdays in February 2023  the 18th & 25 space is limited to 20 participants.

DESCRIPTION:Membership Meeting Guest Speaker\nScrap Quilts – The Secret to Success \nA PowerPoint Presentation using antique quilts and my own work to decode the secrets and patterns of successful scrap quilt making.   Through a study of these quilts\, Barb will discuss design techniques such as color\, contrast\, and composition and how they are employed to create beautiful quilts.  The lecture is followed by a trunk show of scrap quilts. \nQuilting has been her passion for over 30 years with a special interest in antique and applique quilts. Barb’s quilts have been exhibited in regional\, national and international shows including Houston Quilt Festival\, AQS Paducah and Lancaster\, and Quilt Odyssey. She has displayed quilts at the Texas Museum and The New England Quilt Museum. The Vermont Quilt Festival awarded her the Best Hand Quilting Award in 2016 and 2020. She won Connecticut State Fair’s Best Applique’ Quilt twice. In 2019\, two local Guild Shows awarded her Best of Show. She has been published in Quilt magazines and blogs at Fun With Barb. \nBarb enjoys all styles and traditions of quilting but her passion is studying and interpreting antique quilts and wondering about the women who created them. \nShe lives in Connecticut with her husband\, Rich\, and has two grown children. Voting will be based on the membership present picking viewer’s choice.\nWhen the challenge is over\, the quilts will be given to the Comfort Quilts A committee in collaboration with the Education Committee for a special exhibit at the Cranston Central Library in December 2022. DESCRIPTION:A planning meeting will be held at Louise’s shop on Wednesday\, May 18 at 6:30 PM\, with all welcome to attend\, and more information will be available at the May meeting. Currently\, we are in need of someone to chair quilt registration for the show\, as well as a publicity chair. DESCRIPTION:Pat Harrison is a NACQJ Certified Quilt Judge ~ Long-arm Quilter ~ Lecturer ~ Workshop Teacher ~ Quilt Designer ~ Author.  Click here for her website \n\n  \nPat’s Harrison’s \nBinding 101 – aka “Binding Technique Needs Improvement” \nSupply List \n\n2 – 12” x 18″ quilted quilt sandwiches (stitched together ~ backing\, batting\, top)\n2 – 2” binding strips* cut on crosswise grain\, the circumference of “quilt” plus 12″\n2 – 2¼” binding strips* cut on crosswise grain\, the circumference of “quilt” plus 12″\nSewing machine with a walking foot – built-in or attachment\nSewing supplies – the usual suspects\nSmall ruler with 45° angle marking\nWhite chalk mechanical pencil (Bohin™ is my favorite)\nMechanical pencil\, matching threads\nHot\, dry iron\nHand sewing needle\, thimble if you use one.\nA small bottle of Elmer’s™ White School Glue\, not a glue stick or regular Elmer’s\, this if the only glue that works well for this technique.\nSpray starch can with lid – Heavy duty preferred\, regular okay too\n\n  \n*** Before cutting binding strips follow these steps: \na.
